MOTHER THOMPSON'S CRUSADE ROOM
The Hillsboro Crusade of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) groundwork was laid in 1873 at a meeting in the Presbyterian Church (often known as The Crusade Church). Seventy women, led by Mrs. Eliza Jane “Mother” Thompson, went to drug stores, hotels and taverns singing and praying in the street to halt the sale of liquor. Most WCTU items in this room are on loan from the First Presbyterian Church. Eliza Jane "Mother" Thompson and the WCTU are the subject of this file:
THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD in Highland County
An ongoing project has been to research and collect information of the UNDERGROUND RAILROAD movement in Highland County. A display in this room shows part of that information. If you are interested in the work done by this committee, a CD is available for purchase in our MUSEUM SHOP on the first floor.
LINCOLN SCHOOL EXHIBIT
Our latest addition to HIGHLAND HOUSE is this exhibit which tells the story of the first test case in the north of the BROWN v. BOARD OF EDUCATION decision. The seventeen minute documentary showing in this room should not be missed. Items in the glass case all related to Lincoln School and the movement to integrate Hillsboro's elementary schools.
