NORTHWEST BEDROOM (WEAVER'S ROOM)
The loom here is a two harness counterbalanced type. Samples of yarn, dyes and weaving are on display (including rugs on the floor) along with early spinning equipment. The cannon-ball rope bed is ca. 1820. On the wall are portraits of Michael Stroup and his wife, Mary Walker. Mr. Stroup was a hat maker who came to New Market in 1801. The Stroup family tree with 3410 family names of Stroup descendants is also on display. Above the mantle, you can view a “hair picture”; a collection of flowers made of a lady’s hair. Read about the HAIR PICTURE you see in this room.
