WEST PARLOR
This small sitting room contains late Victorian furniture such as the matching settee and chair, ca. 1870. The large bookcase was presented to United State Senator and Ohio Governor, J. B. Foraker and is filled with many magazine collections, such as Harpers and Scribners as well as many of the classics.
Over the mantle is a portrait of John Dawson, painted by local artist, Frances Detwiler, one of Emma's daughters. John was the son of the subjects of paintings you will also see in the parlor over the desk. These are Henry and Mary Dawson. Henry served as Highland County Sheriff and as a State Representative.
We have relocated many of our clocks into this room for display, including our Herschede Grandfather Clock. Be sure to look at them all. I counted nine - see how many you find!
